The new year is here and so is the return of Meet the Clickers!
It’s the 17th episode of our clicker campaign and to kick 2018 off, I caught up with one of the many members of staff flourishing at Click, James Evans!
James, as always, great to catch up mate, seems an absolute lifetime ago since we were sat in Federation House bashing out 200 cars a day on Stock Copy. Could you remind us when you joined Click Dealer?
“Haha! Don’t forget those emergency Friday afternoon stock copies!
I joined Click Dealer on the 26th September 2015 and it was the best opportunity of my life, which thankfully came along just in time.”
Wow! So, with you being a long-standing member of staff, could you tell us a bit about your Click journey?
“I started here at Click in the Stock Copy department as an apprentice. My daily task was to migrate the dealerships stock from their place of advertising, into the Click Dealer system. A few months later I was tasked with setting up Google Analytics accounts for a number of our dealers and learning about the different aspects of the data tracking.
About one year later, I was informed about a future department which would be opening here at Click, this was Search Engine Marketing. I was then offered a job opportunity and was asked to conduct my research on the subject. Months later, I was told that Steven Connor was coming over from Auto Trader to work as the head of Search Engine Marketing. From this point on, Steve taught me all he knew and we worked together to build a department.
I now work as an SEM Account Manager and this involves tasks like: completing technical website audit reports, competition visibility forecasts, SEO reporting, managing Google Analytics accounts and investigating anomalies, general SEO and PPC enquiries and helping clients achieve success in their Google ranking campaigns.”
Wonderful. Now, your current job title is SEM Account Manager, could you tell the readers at home a bit more about what exactly that involves?
“It all starts with the Search Engine Optimisation, which is where I aim to increase clients overall Google ranking positions and website authority. My job is to make the chosen website rank higher in Google for all the relevant searches relating to the business. The reason for this, is an increase in overall website traffic and to boost dealership enquiries.
I usually complete a technical website audit to identify the weaknesses of the website and then feedback what needs to change to ensure better overall ranking. From this point on, I work alongside other departments to fix the issues and present the results in a number of different reports.”
What is something that is considered a luxury, but you don’t think you could live without?
“It must be my smart TV! It allows me to fuel my unhealthy Netflix addiction…”
What is the hardest thing you have ever done and why?
“Probably losing over two stone back in 2015! The motivation just wasn’t there but I knew I had to make a change. I just bought a ridiculously expensive pair of running shoes and before I knew it, I got into a routine and it became part of my day to day life.”
Now, I know you’re a bit of a Netflix God, so this will be a toughy. Favourite programme of all time?
“This is by far the toughest question yet Joe! There’s no definitive answer to this I’m afraid. However, if I have to pick one, it has to be Vikings. If you like blood, guts, hierarchy and history then this is the series for you.”
Who is your favourite Clicker?
“Again, a tough question. I don’t really have favourites but the Clicker who has made the biggest impact to me personally, is Ollie Moxham. I remember from when the Google Analytics role was first assigned to me, he was very patient and he also gave me the career opportunity to get into SEM! From that point on he continued to support me along my journey and for that I’m extremely grateful.”
What is worth spending more on to get the best?
“I’m going to have to go with aftershave on this one! I’m always buying the big brands and personally think they are worth that bit extra.”
What website do you visit most often? (KEEP IT CLEAN) hahaha
“Haha, of course! My most visited website has to be Twitch. I use it to watch streamers in order to fuel my gaming addiction!”
Phew! Good choice mate. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
“David Attenborough by a long way. I have watched his programmes since I was really young and still enjoy a good episode of The Blue Planet. He is a very inspirational man and injects excitement into every episode through his presenting.”
Lastly, what do you love most about working at Click?
“The main point that sticks out to me is the family type of feel. From when I started at Click, I noticed this straightaway and the atmosphere hasn’t changed to this day. Everyone will agree with me on this one, the directors aren’t like others and they make you feel like part of the Clicker family from the moment you walk through the door.”
Fantastic James. Thank you for giving us such an in-depth insight into both your Clicker journey and personal life.
Well, we hope the readers at home enjoyed the first episode of 2018, episode 18 is right around the corner. Stay tuned!
