Meet the Clickers – Steve Deighton

We are once again back with another episode of Meet the Clickers!

This time around I had the chance to catch up with none other than our User Interface & User Experience Lead, Steve Deighton!

Steve! You are the next lucky person to be involved in Meet the Clickers, thanks for taking part. Could you tell us when you joined Click Dealer?

“I joined in March 2016 after a four year stint leading a development team for a digital agency near Manchester. I was looking for something closer to home and something more challenging. I was also keen to get back to what I love which is building awesome software! I am glad to say that Click Dealer has exceeded all my expectations!”

Good stuff. Your official title at Click is UI & UX Lead, could you explain to the readers what this involves?

“I’m responsible for the design and development of our new wave of software products that go out to dealers and consumers alike. One of the products I’ve taken a leading role on is ClickEngage™, our platform that streamlines the process that consumers take when buying a car. There’s always more products in the pipeline though so there’s never any rest, which is exactly how I like it! A major part of my role is also to keep up to date with the latest technology, so as to always make sure Click Dealer are at the top of our game, producing the best products we possibly can.”

What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue?

“If time wasn’t an issue I would love to play classical piano. But time AND money, then I would be racing (and probably crashing) cars quite a lot.”

What is your perfect pizza?

“I love mushrooms on a pizza, and ricotta cheese. Having said that the Domino’s Meator is pretty epic. Oh and a thin base. Ain’t nobody got time for a thick base!”

If you could have personally witnessed anything, what would you have seen?

“I feel like Woodstock ’94 would have been the best live music event ever, so I guess that. Or maybe the moon landing, you know… if it even happened.”

Hahaha. Definitely one for the Tin Foil Hat brigade that one. If you could spend a day with any celebrity, who would it be and why?

“David Attenborough, but it would have to be somewhere interesting like the Galapagos Islands or Madagascar, so we could track down some crazy lizards or something.”

What is the best movie you have seen in the last five years?

“Tough one! I can think of loads before that but in the last five years I’ll probably go with “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” which is a pretty light-hearted indie film based in the New Zealand bush. It certainly made me chuckle.”

What are you most looking forward to over the next 10 years?

“Seeing the mini Deightons grow up! I’m lucky enough to have a little boy and girl that always make my day. So I’m mainly looking forward to seeing more of them and their antics as they grow!”

What is the #1 most played song in your music library?

“According to Spotify, Birch Tree by Foals was my most played song of 2017, although that could have gone anywhere – quite a few different genres in the top ten!”

What would be your ideal way to spend the weekend?

“Nice food, beer, live music, nice food, day out with the family, nice food, decent tv or movie, nice food, nothing, nice food.”

Last but not least, what do you love most about working at Click?

“One of the most interesting things about working at Click is the vast amount of detail we go into in all areas of our market, so there’s always something to learn about the business as well as the technology that drives it.  My role allows me to influence the way in which our products are designed, developed and released. So for somebody who loves building things, it’s the perfect place to keep me challenged. Oh and it’s all about cars, so win, win!
