How to Set Up a YouTube Advertising Campaign For Dealers!

YouTube is a huge part of the Google Display Network (GDN), receiving over 30 million visitors per day. This statistic combined with the fact that consumers are more likely to engage with video content than they are with text and images, gives the site adverts a whole boat load of potential!

If you have created a video advert, a YouTube campaign is a great way to get it seen and Google has now made it easier than ever to set up one of these campaigns through AdWords.

How Do I Setup My Own YouTube Campaign?

First things first, if you do not already have them, you will need to create YouTube and AdWords accounts for your business. You will then be able to upload your video advert to YouTube and create a campaign on AdWords. Simply click the “+ Campaign” button on your AdWords dashboard and select “Video” from the drop-down menu.

Next, you will need to select your video ad format, for this you should choose “In-stream ads or video discovery ads”. In-stream ads appear before videos, sometimes with an option to skip them after five seconds, whereas video discovery ads appear on YouTube’s homepage and search results pages.

The next stage requires you to choose a budget per day, and a network – either YouTube Search, YouTube Videos or both. If you choose Search, your advert will appear in results for searches as well as the homepage, channel pages and video pages of YouTube. On the other hand, if you choose Videos, your ads can appear as video discovery ads or in-stream ads.

You can then customise your campaign further, choosing locations that you want to target or exclude with your advert as well as the languages your customers speak and the devices you would like your advert to appear on. In the advanced settings options, you can add more filters and also set dates and times for your campaign to begin and end.

After you have done all of that, you can create your YouTube video ad group and insert the YouTube link for your ad. Then you will have to decide how much you are willing to bid and enter your maximum cost per view (CPV). One of the best things about YouTube campaigns is that you will only have to pay when viewers show intertest in your advert, that is, if they watch it for longer than thirty seconds or they click on a call-to-action.

Finally, you will be able to choose who you want to target with campaign, filtering YouTube users by age, parental status, gender and interests. As a dealership, you will want to select options like ‘Auto Enthusiasts’ in the ‘Interests’ section. You can also target individuals by keywords and topics. Targeting is important because it will ensure that you get high-quality traffic, rather than spending money on people who will watch your advert, but aren’t actually interested in making a purchase.

It is as simple as that! The difficult part is maintaining your campaign, keeping tabs on what you are spending and how much engagement it is getting so that you will be able to work out whether you need to modify your filters.
