Microsoft Support For Windows 7 Operating System Is Officially Terminated

As of January the 14th 2020, Microsoft has discontinued support for its Windows 7 operating system. This means that you will no longer receive updates and could potentially run into issues running the operating system on your PC.

Windows 7 was released in October 2009 so this system is now over 10 years old!

If you’re still using Windows 7 at home or at work, it’s time you got in touch with your IT company or look at purchasing a more up to date version of Windows so you can continue to use all of your portals without interruption, including our own product suite.  The recommendations from Microsoft can be found by clicking here.

If you are not sure on whether you are on Windows 7 please follow the below steps:

  • Select the start button
  • Type ‘computer’ in the search box
  • Select properties
  • Under the Windows edition, you will see the version of Windows your device is running.

Keep Calm and Upgrade

Although Microsoft’s official support will no longer be available, this isn’t time to panic. Windows 7 will continue working after January 14 2020 – you’ll be able to use the system for as long as you want. However, it’s far from ideal because Windows 7 will no longer receive updates and patches to help protect your operating system from any new viruses or security threats in the future which could cause problems further down the line with relation to GDPR compliance.

If you do want to upgrade, it is best to do this right at the end of the day as you won’t have access to your PC while you’re upgrading systems! Please consult an IT technician first.
How To Update To Windows 10
  • Go to the Download Windows 10 website.
  • Under Create Windows 10 installation media, click ‘Download tool now’ and ‘Run’.
  • Choose ‘Upgrade this PC now’, assuming this is the only PC you’re upgrading…
  • Follow the prompts.

The update to a newer version of Windows will not necessarily mean you need to purchase new hardware, although this could be the case if your PC is too old to support Windows 10. We would advise that you contact an IT technician or an in-store professional before doing anything with regards to updating your system or buying new hardware. The last thing we want is for you to run into problems and not have access to your PC during working hours.
