For many people, passing a driving test becomes a priority after reaching the age of 17, but one of the most important parts of the process is choosing your first car once you have succeeded. 10. Citroen C1
The Citroen C1 is a great affordable vehicle. Its excellent handling and good acceleration make it ideal as a first car. You can get a 2010-11 registration C1 for under £3,000 or a brand new one for around £9,000 to £13,5000 and as an additional bonus, it is in the lowest and cheapest insurance group.

The model has a lightweight build that makes it feel great to drive, and you should be able to get your hands on a recent used Aygo for less than £5,000. A new model could be purchased for less than £10,000.
A classic car, the MINI hatchback unites retro style and practicality. It is ideal for those who have just passed their driving test and are eager to spend a lot of time on the roads, as it is relatively cheap to run. In terms of the initial cost, the MINI is one of the more expensive vehicles on our list, which is unsurprising considering its desirable, high-quality design. You could expect to pay between £14,500 and £24,500 for a brand-new model.

The Vauxhall Corsa has always been a popular choice for new drivers, and for good reason. With a comfortable and spacious cabin and a cost-effective engine, this car offers the full package. You could get a post-2010 model on a £3,000 budget.
6. Dacia Sandero
Dacia is a renowned brand for affordable cars. You can get a new Sandero for under £6,000 and a used model for half that price, it is a great starter car for those on a budget. Although the fantastically low price limits the level of quality slightly, the Dacia Sandero makes no other sacrifices. It features plenty of interior space and is enjoyable to drive.

Small and practical, the Ford KA + is an impressive vehicle. It is defined by precision handling and refinement and is another popular model for new drivers. The model is cheap both to purchase and insure.
4. Volkswagen Polo
The Volkswagen Polo is a champion amongst superminis. It is classy, comfortable and convenient and you can pick one up for a bargain. New models can cost between £10,000 and £20,000, but you can get a used 2006 model for less than £1,000, making the Polo a great starter car.

What makes the Hyundai i10 such a good first car is its practicality, reliability and excellent craftsmanship. The sensible city car offers a choice between a 65 bhp 1.0-litre three cylinder or 86 bhp 1.2-litre four cylinder to suit your preferences. The i10 is reasonably inexpensive to buy and is in insurance group 1, which is ideal for first time buyers.

The Ford Fiesta has already claimed the top spot on Click’s list of the Best Selling Used Cars of 2017, so you can feel confident that it is a great choice. The Fiesta is due for an update this year, which provides an opportunity to get a big discount. The car is stylish, fun to drive and cheap to run as well as featuring advanced technology. It is an excellent motor, particularly for a first car.

We have rated the Skoda Citigo as the best car for new drivers for several reasons. Firstly, the car is cheap both to buy, run and insure, with a brand-new model costing between £8,500 and £12,000. Despite being inexpensive, the Citigo does not compromise on safety features as each model gets ESP, six airbags and comes with the option of autobrake. The quality of the car is also impressive considering the price and it offers plenty of interior space. To top it all off, this car is exciting. It is fun to drive and it stands out with its quirky design, available in a range of vibrant colours. Overall, the Skoda Citigo is an all-round performer.
