Why Lead Management is Key for Dealerships

Organising Email Inbox
Many dealerships today are heavily focused on acquiring leads, but don’t have a process in place to deal with them once they’ve gained them, leaving them to fall into the hands of competitors.

Having an effective lead management system can help you offer your customers better service and prevent sales leads being lost. It can also give you easy access to valuable data, so that you can find out which advertising channels are working well and how your sales staff are performing.

Better Customer Service

A lead management system should make it much easier for you to see enquiries coming through to your dealership, as they will all be in one place. In this virtual location, you should be able to see what time enquiries come in and if they have been responded to.

This makes checking and responding to enquiries easier and more efficient, helping you deliver the fast responses that customers have come to expect. With Click Leads, you will receive notifications as enquiries come through, saving you from having to check constantly. The system will also send automatic responses to customers to let them know that their enquiry has been received.

Less Missed Sales Opportunities

Failing to respond to enquiries before a customer starts looking elsewhere is a common issue for dealerships, so having this system in place to see exactly what is happening with them helps to ensure that opportunities don’t get missed. This means that more leads will be converted and ultimately, you will sell more cars!

Storage of Valuable Data

When leads are pulled from your inbox, website and advertising portals and stored in one location, you can easily draw comparisons and see how many leads are coming from each source. This can help you make informed decisions about how to allocate your budget.

Visibility of Sales Team Performance

A lead management system should also let you see which member of your sales team is managing each lead, which gives you a good overview of the individual performance of your staff. From this, you can set personal targets to encourage team members to push themselves. Click Leads allows you to set and track KPIs all within the application to make things even easier.

Revhead Ramblings: Alex’s Automotive Pet Peeves

I read somewhere the other day that getting everything that annoys you off your chest is a great way to start 2019. So, with that in mind, what better place to start than cars?

Obviously, I accept that cars are incredibly personal and impersonal things. To some they’re a mode of transport and to others they’re family. Things I hate, others will love but that’s the beauty of the automotive world!

Fake Badges

There’s a 330i that I drive past everyday on my way to work, it’s not a slow car by any means, but it’s also not an M car. And yet, beside his 330i badge might I add, he’s placed an M3 emblem on the boot… Who does he honestly think this will fool?

For those who don’t suss out his ruse from the uninspiring body kit, small alloys and tall ride height; he still has the original badge on the car! While BMW drivers are the main culprits for this, I’ve seen it on Mercedes, Fords and Volkswagens. eBay badges aren’t cool, they’re quite the opposite.

Unnecessarily Bright Headlights

Why is it manufacturers insist on offering headlights that illuminate the roads brighter than the sun on a summers day in July? Yes, I can see the safety benefits for the driver of the vehicle, but for anyone coming the other way or being followed by the guy with search lights for head lamps, it’s incredibly distracting and dangerous!

An EV Doesn’t Make You a Saint

Yes, an electric car is great, it doesn’t emit any fumes and you aren’t reliant on oil to fuel your car. However, for those people who believe they’re above regular ICE drivers there are a few things to consider. While some of the power used to charge your car may come from renewable sources, the majority is still from gas and coal power stations.

Secondly, to produce your high capacity batteries, the minerals must first be mined, often by workers who’re mistreated. These metals must then be shipped to another country to be refined, the refined material is then shipped again to be made into batteries before being shipped once more to the final assembly point. EV drivers really are trying to make a difference but they’re not always as eco-friendly as they think!

Touchscreens Upon Touchscreens

Having a central touchscreen in cars is great. More often than not they’re far prettier than a radio, they offer more functionality and are usually much easier to use. This was true until manufacturers decided they could declutter the dash even more by including heating controls and every other setting into this one screen.

Yes, this may look cleaner, but it often makes turning the heating up a dangerous and frustrating task. Hitting exactly where you want on the screen while travelling on Britain’s notoriously bumpy roads and keeping your attention straight ahead is a near impossible task. I like tech in my car but leave some physical controls!

I could continue this list forever and I’m sure you could all add plenty more. 2019 is a huge year for cars though and I genuinely can’t wait to see what’s going to be released. There’s sure to be plenty more things to go on this list next year, I just hope those fake M badges are criminalised before then…

Revhead Ramblings: 2019 is a Huge Year For Cars

The new year is upon us and every car fanatic is waiting with baited breath for the cars we’ve been so cruelly teased with over the past year; or in some cases decades!

Electrification is obviously due to be a big element this year, however that’s not to say we’ll be without our beloved fossil fuel burners! Only time will tell just how far manufacturers are willing to push consumers in order to achieve their emission targets.

The Supra Returns

It’s been 17 years since we last saw a Supra leave the production line, but now after seven years of production alongside BMW we’re finally able to experience our Fast and Furious dreams!

The all-new Supra is due to be officially released at the North American International Motor Show in Detroit in January; however, the final design will be of little surprise after Toyota’s German division leaked yet more photos.

It’s expected to go on sale in the first half of 2019, priced at roughly £50,000; I suppose they’ve got to find the money for seven years of R&D from somewhere… Speaking at the Geneva show, Supra Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada said “a front-mounted six-cylinder turbocharged engine powering the rear wheels was the configuration favoured by owners and aficionados of previous versions of the Supra.” The engine is expected to produce approximately 300bhp and 470nm of torque, enough for a 0-62mph time around the five second mark.

Hybrid Assistance in Ingolstadt

Audi’s marketing department have their work cut out this year with new cars coming in all shapes and sizes. The A8, A7 and A6 are all due to receive the S treatment; though the turbocharged V6s are expected in the two smaller cars. Thankfully this leaves plenty of room for the slightly mad RS models to make their mark!

The RS6 and RS7 are also due for a touch up. For the first time ever, both cars are expected to go the way of Mercedes and be offered in two states of tune. The faster of the tunes is expected to take advantage of a hybrid-boost system to take power past 700bhp! The new A3, and S3 respectively, are due to make an appearance too.

 The Concept Honda

The Honda Urban EV was one of last year’s most loved concepts, combining a squat hatchback stance and retro detailing with a thoroughly modern electric powertrain. We’re now due to see it in 2019, let’s just hope it’s as exciting to drive as Honda have promised… It’s sure to be a hit however, as people become more environmentally conscious, the need for an affordable EV is only going to increase!

Fast Fords

Reviewers raved when they drove the new Focus ST-Line, it’s smaller, lighter and lower than the current car, so we’re quietly confident the full fat ST will be a serious contender on the market. Horsepower is predicted to sit around 270bhp, this puts it firmly in contention with the Renault Sport Megane and Hyundai i30 N. The Golf GTI may be just out of reach however, with the Golf R expected to push beyond 350bhp to fend off the Merc-AMG A35, the GTI can extend its limits too.

Obviously, this is just a slither of everything on offer over the next 12 months, we’re sure to see some wacky idea from Musk and a few more start-ups entice us with concepts only to disappear the next week. One company we’ve all heard of but never seen a car from is Italdesign; they’re due to have an exciting year…

How Empowering Your Team Can Improve Customer Experience in Your Dealership

While for many people, buying a new car is an exciting prospect, others find the process daunting. Vehicle dealers can help to change this by empowering staff and improving the overall customer experience.

There are certain pain points along the consumer journey which are widely disliked, such as administration and negotiation of price and trade-in value. Dealers can sometimes be afraid to relinquish responsibility for smoothing out these areas and pass authority to their sales team.

Investing a bit of time and resources to ensure that your salespeople are given comprehensive training will have a long-term pay-off. Creating a well-rounded salesforce who can deal with finance queries, part-exchange valuations and payment will mean that you can rely on others to take care of your business without you needing to be present all of the time and result in higher conversion rates.

People Like Dealing with People

Businesses which put rigid processes for dealing with digital leads, phone calls and walk-ins can often forget that there is a human at the other end. Customers can become overwhelmed and frustrated by a heavily process-driven experience, preferring to be welcomed by a friendly, human tone.

Particularly with digital leads, when salespeople are facing a computer, it is easy to follow a script, but all customers should be dealt with as if they are sitting across from you. You wouldn’t leave a prospect customer standing around waiting for an hour or more if they were actually in your dealership and this shouldn’t be the case online.

Managing Enquiries Out of Hours

Another reason why giving your entire salesforce the training and authority to be able to handle every stage of an enquiry and access management systems is that you can have someone skilled on-call after hours who is able to convert a sale.

A large portion of digital enquiries are now being made outside of dealerships’ traditional opening hours, so an extended service is becoming increasingly necessary. This simply requires turning on phone notifications and offering responses as they come through and if your whole team is empowered, the work load can be shared.

Empower Your Staff

Imparting knowledge and authority is not about handing over responsibility, it is about sharing it. When every member of your team can deal with each stage of the consumer journey, customers will not have to be passed from pillar to post, fewer mistakes tend to be made, and rates of conversion are higher.

Your customers will have a better experience – which, in turn, leads to better retention, your staff will have the opportunity to progress, and your dealership will be more profitable, everyone wins!

Five Ways Used Vehicle Dealers Can Make 2019 Fruitful!

As we welcome in the new year, now is the time to think about a plan of action to ensure 2019 brings your dealership prosperity!

2018 was a great year for used car sales, with demand for preowned vehicles overtaking demand for new vehicles by miles. Despite modest sales volumes in December, this trend is set to continue in the 2019. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has predicted a decline of 2.4% in new car registrations in 2019, so we can expect even more competition in the used car sector.

There are a number of factors which may impact vehicle dealers this year, including the continuing effects of WLTP, Brexit, the new Making Tax Digital for VAT regulations being implemented this April and increased demand for used vehicles resulting in supply shortages. These factors could make 2019 a challenging year, so it is important to be prepared for market fluctuations.

1. Consider Alternative Routes for Obtaining Stock

As if sourcing quality used cars and vans wasn’t difficult enough, the industry is currently facing an extreme shortage of these vehicles, there is simply not enough to meet the high levels of demand. If your traditional sources prove to be insufficient in 2019, you’ll want to have a backup plan in place.

Many dealers are turning to classifieds, while others are acquiring lower grade stock. The latter is certainly a viable option, but you will require additional resources for the refurbishment process, so if you choose this route, make sure that you have a strategy in place to handle this, so that the number of days vehicles spend in stock does not become a serious problem.

2. Try New Things

With each year, the automotive industry becomes more modern, and investing in new technologies and digital marketing is not only a smart move, but a necessary one to keep your dealership ahead of the competition and meeting customer expectations.

Remember, in April, you will need to do away with paper-based processes for recording tax, replacing them with HMRC-recognised digital methods. This is a good time to think about other areas of your business in which processes may need updating.

3. Train Yourself and Your Team

If you are unsure of where to start with updating your dealership’s processes, Click Dealer is offering a free Webinar Series throughout 2019, in which a number of our experts will be sharing knowledge about digital solutions for vehicle dealers. The series kicks off with a Social Media session on January 9th 2019, hosted by our own Social Media Manager, Joe Podmore.

As well as learning new things, it is equally important that all members of your team are trained to deliver the same standard of service. As the new year begins, this may be an ideal time to refresh staff on your company values, strategies and processes so that consistent service is assured.

4. Value Your Customers

It is not all about trying new things, putting your customers first is a tip that will always be relevant and something that you should constantly remind yourself and your team of, as customers are what keep your business running!

When you devise your strategy each quarter, make sure that it is centred around your customers; before investing in new lead generation tactics, ensure that you will be able to respond quickly and efficiently; and when customers come into your dealership, they should be treated with respect and leave satisfied so that their experience is excellent from start to finish.

5. Stay Flexible

With so many variables, no one can say for sure how this year will turn out for vehicle dealers and the best thing you can do is be ready to adapt. Keep an eye on market trends and conduct performance reports on a regular basis; full visibility of how well certain vehicles are selling, and sales margins can help you identify where to target resources.

Happy New Year from everyone here at Click Dealer!

Revhead Ramblings: What is the point of Elon’s 155mph tunnel?

Elon Musk and his Boring Company made quite a splash in LA last week. Instead of a personal flame thrower or a hat, they’ve instead unveiled 155mph tunnel for self-driving cars…

On paper it’s a single-file tunnel that can allow self-driving cars to travel at high speed with no danger of crashing, hitting anything or getting stuck in traffic. It needs no significant surface-level infrastructure and could cut journey times to a fraction of what Angelinos currently have to put up with.  Furthermore, it only costs $10 million per mile; I say ‘only’ as sub-city railways cost $900 million per mile…

The truth

This is all sounds splendid then, those who’re rich enough can effectively bypass the nightmare that is rush hour traffic and let their self-driving car do its thing. There are some flaws in this great plan however. Firstly, the tunnel can obviously only run one way at a time, to have opposite flowing traffic you’d have to double those costs and potentially the build time. It’s possible to get around this by, for example, flowing traffic into the centre of the city in the morning and then flowing them out at night; it’s hardly an ideal practise though.

The real figures

Elon and the Boring Company were very proud to announce that at full capacity, they could safely transport 4000 cars per hour or just over 1 per second. While this may sound impressive, a busy but free flowing Californian highway transports between five and 15 cars per second over a single point. Therefore, the tunnel won’t even scratch the surface of people’s traffic woes.

My questions

Elon has faced a barrage of questions on Twitter over the plans, even the director of the Hungarian Transit Museum labelled the project a scam! I’d personally like to know how new cars joining the system would be able to get up to speed quickly enough that they’re not rear ended, like my poor car was on Boxing day! Secondly how many people can leave from the same exit at once? Like any city or town, there are going to be certain places that are extremely popular and trying to force over 60 cars out every minute doesn’t seem feasible.

When he’s not accusing heroes of being overly friendly with children or abusing his workers’ rights, Elon seems to be a great guy who truly cares about the planet. Many people have suggested these public outbursts are often covers for further delays in production or to make people overlook another of his stupid comments. The Boring Company was supposed to be fun and full of fun ideas, like the flamethrowers. It seems that it’s becoming more of joke with each new announcement unfortunately…

Meet the Clickers – Pip Moxham

Episode 53 of Meet the Clickers sees us meet Head of Marketing Pip! We sat down last week to discuss celebrity crushes and the Wednesday Club!

Hi Pip, I hope you’re well. Could you tell us all how you started at Click please?

Before working at Click I used to work at a Digital Agency in Manchester, where I had worked for just over 6 years.  Ollie and I had discussed me working at Click for a few years but I wanted to wait for the right opportunity. I came in for a meeting with Gerry to talk about the skills that I can bring to Click and the vision for the future, he offered me the job and it has been a perfect match ever since.

I already knew a few of the Clickers from nights out and I’d already worked with Shaun Allcock and Steve Deighton in my previous job, not to mention that half of Click are actually my family haha so it was the perfect transition for me and I was kindly welcomed with open arms.

How has your job changed since you started with us?

When I first started at Click in November 2016 I worked in the Web and Tech team helping to organise the studio throughput and sprint planning. I then moved up to the Marketing department about 9 months later to work closely with Jamie to help to shape our fabulous Marketing Team.

My department is split into three sub departments, Click Dealer Marketing, Social Media and Content Creation, our responsibilities include work for our dealership customers as well as the overall marketing and communications for the business across different channels.

Have you and Ollie decided on the colour theme for the baby’s bike leathers yet?

Ha-ha, it will not be going anywhere near a bike or sidecar! He has got a Valentino Rossi baby grow but that’s as close as he’s getting.

With any luck he’ll prefer cars anyway! What do you wish you knew more about?

How to be a parent would be good!

How did you earn the nickname ‘The Scoffer’?

I sit next to super healthy Joe Podmore and he always gives me a judging look when I eat anything remotely unhealthy. At the moment I’m eating quite a lot of it too, so he’s got a constant frown of disapproval.

We all know Joe loves a Chico’s though, don’t feel too bad Pip! What’s the Wednesday Club and how do we join?

Wednesday Club started when my Dad came around every Wednesday for pasta and wine night, we’ve expanded our menu choices since then though! Ollie’s also involved in it and we did have a quiz team with the same name consisting of myself, Ol, my Dad, Joe and Jake Mallin. We weren’t very good, so we canned that off pretty quickly!

That does sound like a fun group to be in. Ron Munn mentioned the ‘Visitor Chode’ could you expand on this?

As bad as it may sound, the answer is actually quite innocent! I was speaking in a meeting and instead of saying Ron is auditing all our dealers that were using the Visitor Chat code on their website, it instead came out as Visitor Chodes… I couldn’t contain myself after that, so I had to end the meeting!

Haha, I’ve heard you make a few of those slip ups in fairness! Is it true that your celebrity crush bares a striking resemblance to your Husband, Ollie?

Oooh yeah, well I think he does. I’m a big fan of Jamie Dornan, I can’t help it. I think I saw him in Fifty Shades first!

Is it true that you’ve eaten at so many restaurants and pubs in the Staffordshire area that the county is thinking of introducing the ‘Pipchellin’ star, as you eat out more often than most food critics anyway?

I do like to eat out. I’d definitely be up for the Pipchellin Star though, I think I’d be a harsh critic! I’ve got a few places in mind already! As everyone already knows, I’m a big fan of pie (much to Joe’s amusement) so whenever I eat one I like I often report back to my friends. I quite like the Plume of Feathers; their pie is really good.

We do love a pie in marketing! None more so than Jamie! What trend do you hope makes a return?

I’d love to see double denim make a comeback!

What risks are worth taking?

Anything that makes you happy.

It’s a shame Ben Wood doesn’t use that logic when taking out another Vale season ticket; who could be happy supporting them? What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

You get out what you put in, so the harder you work the bigger your reward will be.

What do you love most about working at Click?

Of course, I love my fellow marketers, but I also love working for a family business. Working with their spouse would drive most people mad, but I love working with Ol and the rest of the family. It’s a great place where your ideas are listened to and valued, you also leave everyday knowing you’ve made a difference!

Spot on Pip, we really do make a difference don’t we!

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone for supporting this series throughout the year, it continues to be one of our top performing blogs and we’ve got big plans for it in the future… Don’t forget to join us again in 2019 to meet more of our Wonderful Clickers!

What Will Happen to the Values of Used Cars in 2019?

used-car-values-2019
Year after year, car buyers have been willing to pay more for second-hand cars as their prices have inevitably risen. Values have increased by 42% in the last seven years compared to those of new cars, whose values increased by a mere 19% during the same period. Will used car values continue to rise into Q1, 2019 or have their prices finally reached their upper limit?

After statistics revealed a very healthy 2018 for the used car market, manufacturers strive to leave car buyers with plenty of options in the new market throughout the upcoming year. Close competition in the industry means that prices of used cars are likely to increase, as are their values.

Where the Market is Going in 2019

Jayson Whittington, chief car editor of Glass’s, believes that the future of used car values hugely depends on the volume of fresh auction entries in the first quarter of 2019, but more importantly that WLTP is a new factor that could impact the market next year.

‘’Ordinarily fresh stock is limited at the beginning of January and combined with strong demand can lead to values rising.

‘’However, over the past couple of years we have seen vendors holding back stock in December and releasing it in January, which has resulted in supply and demand being even. As we progress through February stock volume does reduce and prices rise’’, added Whittington.

After researching trends in the used car market over the last 12 months, Whittington further added: ‘’There has been an increase in the volume of contract hire extensions over the past three months as a result of WLTP related stock availability issues.

‘’In October, less cars were available in the market than last year and it is believed that this is related to the extension rate. If this continues into quarter one, then it is reasonable to expect demand to outstrip supply with prices rising as a result.’’

Taking this into account, Whittington expects that as we could face a spike in contract hire returns, demand will only marginally outstrip supply early in January, thus prices are likely to increase in February.

The Effects of WLTP on the Market

Head of UK valuation at Cap hpi, Derren Martin, is expecting values to drop in December but not nearly as much as they have previously. He also points WLTP as a contributing factor, as well as Brexit.

“The first quarter is generally a strong period for prices, and we don’t envisage anything dramatic happening to alter this view. What is likely, however, is that prices will not drop as much as they traditionally have in the balance of this year, or therefore increase as much in the first period of next year. Prices of petrol cars, in particular, are already high so they are unlikely to go up in the short-term,” he explained.

Meet the Clickers – Dave Perry

Episode 52 of Meet the Clickers is here! This week I sat down with none other than Dave Perry. Read on to learn more about driving to Finland and being a top DJ!

Hi Dave, I hope you’re well. Could you tell us all how you started at Click please?

I’m good thanks! I started at Click almost four years ago now. I’d been self employed for over 10 years but decided to take on some extra work, that’s when I saw Click were advertising. At the time Web was made up of Ollie and Kyle and Tech had Graeme and Mike; we’ve grown a lot since then! I was soon offered the first Front-End Developer role at Click and since then I’ve never looked back!

Good stuff, how has your job changed since you started here?

As I said before, I started off on a part-time basis, then I was made the Lead Front-End Developer in February 2015.

I’ve designed and developed some of our biggest bespoke client’s websites and I’ve done this whilst producing over 100 standard websites per year as well, I wouldn’t like to guess how many I’ve done since I started!

Recently I’ve been focusing on improving the user experience of our websites. Analysing, testing and designing better layouts, features and searches to improve the user journey and increase conversions. We’ve already had some great results.

That’s an incredible amount of work! If you became a dictator, what would your first law be?

I don’t think I’d last very long, I’d be assassinated pretty quickly! For the short time I am in charge though, I’d probably eliminate tax.

I hear you like to create your own music, what genre is it and how did you get into it?

Yeah, I have a go at making Hip Hop and chilled beats. It’s something I do for fun. I’ve recently started to make Drum and Bass, I still need some practise though!

Where’s the most interesting place you’ve visited?

Me and some friends drove to Finland. We spent almost a month there and absolutely loved it. We stayed in a log cabin in the woods on the edge of a lake. I’ve never been so chilled out and relaxed. I’m definitely going back sometime soon. It’s an amazing place and I’d highly recommend it!

That’s certainly an experience! I’ve heard stories about the first Click Christmas party, what happened there?

I don’t remember a lot about it to be honest. I think it involved some Tequila, a park bench and a moped…

Those three items are bound to make for a good story! What’s your favourite way to spend your free time?

That’s probably not appropriate for here! Currently I’m into Tomahawking and firebombing people on Read Dead Redemption on the Xbox.

I’ve been told you’re fond of 80’s music, who’re your favourite artist/group?

I put ABBA and the Bee Gees on the banned list in the office and Gold by Spandau Ballet! In fact, all 80’s pop was banned, especially Kev’s party list!

Surely a bit of MJ can make it on though? What’s one thing you’d buy if money was no option?

I’d probably kit out a nice recording studio and buy a yacht with a speedboat.

I think I’d buy Port Vale’s stadium, a second training ground for Crewe would look really good on there! What do you love most about working at Click?

Working in a team that can get stuff done. The web team have created some amazing websites and features and we’re still getting better and better.

Part of my role is to mentor the other developers and to see how they have developed into some of the best designer/developers in the industry is personally great to see.

Gerry, Ollie and Pip are great too. The company has expanded considerably in my four years, yet they still have time to ask how you are whenever they see you.

That’s great Dave, being here as long as you have, I’m sure it’s pretty surreal to think just how much we’ve grown!
